Paper Poinsettia Gift Toppers

The yuletide spirit is practically on us! Hope everyone is ready for some festive merriment, but to be on the safe side, I have made these bright and cheery paper poinsettias to get everyone in the mood. 🌺 There are many stories as to why poinsettias are considered Christmas flowers, including an old Mexican legend, but it’s most likely because of the colours. I mean, just look at them! 🤩

Traditional origami actually forbids glue, so perhaps this project is more in line with kirigami. ✂️ I used them as gift toppers 🎁 and gift bag decorations, but they could also work as hanging ornaments. 🎄

To learn the folds, take a look at this video 🎥, which also has a few other easy poinsettia options. Once you have put them together, all you will need is a bit of card to stick on the back and some string or ribbon. 🎀

🤓 Fun fact… the red parts of this plant are not actually petals but modified leaves (or bracts), the actual flowers are right in the centre, called the cyathia. I used gold sequins for that part of the anatomy on my paper versions.

So there you go, it truly is as easy as that! Before I go drop off some presents for family, I’ll leave a little Christmas meme that I thought was a right cracker. 😆 Here’s wishing you and your loved ones lots of joy. All the best for 2026… see you on the other side! 🎉
